From Iowa to the written page

Ken was born in Nebraska and grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended Washington High School, then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was stationed in Germany.

Back home, he completed his education at the University of Iowa and worked in health science research for more than thirty years. He has also been a patient and volunteer at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.

There’s always more to learn

Ken’s interests range from languages and nature to psychology, philosophy, archaeology, and sociology. He’s spent much of his life trying to understand people and the world around him.

Writing started as a way through a difficult period. It became a way to sort out his thoughts, remember what mattered, and put his experiences into words.

The people closest to him

Family is a recurring part of Ken’s writing. He writes about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and about the everyday ways people show up for one another.

Recording those memories gives him a way to share them with the generations that follow.

What he comes back to

A conversation, a familiar place, someone he cared about: Ken often returns to details that might seem small at first. His writing gives him room to look back and ask why they stayed with him.
